EGED is a five-year programme funded by the UK government (FCDO), aimed at improving the efficiency, accountability, and transparency of economic policy implementation in priority reforms across Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
DPI’s Role in the Programme
The Development Policy Institute (DPI), a public entity, is implementing the Effective Governance for Economic Development (EGED) Programme under an agreement with FCDO. From 2021 to 2024, the programme was implemented in partnership with ACTED and DPI. In September 2024, DPI took over the further implementation of the programme and will work to promote good economic governance for inclusive growth in Central Asia by increasing demand for transparent and effective economic policies among civil society actors, in collaboration with other organizations.
Under this project, DPI facilitated the establishment of coordination councils in two pilot districts: At-Bashy (Naryn oblast) and Nookat (Osh oblast). These councils united local authorities, businesses, and communities to drive regional development and enhance service delivery.
Based on the successful experience in At-Bashy and Nookat, the socio-economic development program (SEDP) methodology development will be introduced in the following pilot districts - Bazar-Korgon (Jalal-Abad oblast), Kemin (Chui oblast), Kadamjay (Batken oblast), Jeti-Oguz (Issyk-Kul oblast), Aitmatov (Talas oblast).
