  • Improving Fiscal Literacy of Journalists and Media Representatives (WB, 2011 - 2012)

Since 2009 till 2024 DPI successfully implemented about 60 projects in the area of municipal and state administration, including municipal and state resource management and citizen participation in local developmemt planning and management (funding from SDC, FCDO, USAID, UNDP, UNICEF, the World Bank, the European Commission, and other international organizations. The main principle of development or choice of a project is its full accordance to DPI’s Mission and possibilities for quality and timely implementation of the project.

DPI was the first local organization in Kyrgyzstan to directly implement SDC and USAID-funded projects aimed at developing LSG, local services, interbudgetary reations, and citizen participation in the budget process.

Project name: Information Matters – Transparency and Accountability in the Kyrgyz Republic. Budget Reporting for Journalists and Media training Project

Implementation: a consortium of four organizations:

  • University of Central Asia (UCA)
  • Development Policy Institute (DPI)
  • Kyrgyz Stock Exchange Press Club (KSEPC)
  • Alliance For Budget Transparency (Alliance)

Location: Kyrgyzstan

Period: February 2011 – October 2012

Involvement: Project design, implementation, day-to-day management 

Objective:

Promote transparency and accountability in Kyrgyzstan through better budget reporting by local/National journalists and mass media outlets.

Activities:

  • Training needs assessment design, including survey of journalists, interviewing owners and editors of mass media outlets throughout the country, management of mass media monitoring, analysis, and report design covering findings and recommendations.
  • Design of training modules for journalists on various budget related issues.
  • Delivery of trainings.
  • Providing consultations/mentoring to journalists participating in the Project for their reports on budget issues.
  • Facilitation of dialogue between mass media representatives and budget/public finance/tax authorities
